Alec Lai’s review published on Letterboxd:
This film sure was a slow burn haha... get it?
PTA directed the hell out of this. Honestly, I think that's the first thing you come away with. While it was an interesting story and all, PTA was definitely the one to seal the deal, to make you listen. I haven't read the novel, nor will I probably, because in all likelihood I wouldn't really be intrigued by it. Somehow this is a uniquely cinematic story.
I found my love of this film, however, to be more appreciative rather than personal. For the record, several scenes really shook me and made impact on some subconscious part of my brain (which is hard to do) but it was just the tiniest bit confusing and a little bit, again, impersonal.
I officially understand the hype.
