• The Three Musketeers

    The Three Musketeers

Starts off messy (the score doesn't kick in until 40 odd minutes in?) There's a real rough-around-the-edges quality from a technical standpoint...

    However.

The comedic gags are startlingly modern. The tone and the pace are 100% the blueprint for the Pirates of the Caribbean, like they lifted SO MUCH from this one alone. The end sequence is a blast.

Can't wait to watch the sequel.

  • Mamma Mia!

    Mamma Mia!

This is one of my mum's all time favourites so we inevitably end up watching it annually.

I have such DIRTY thoughts about Dominic Cooper, it's ridiculous.

  • No Reservations

    No Reservations

There's a version of this movie that's a tight 90 minute screwball comedy about chefs falling in love... instead we got the grief drama 🤷‍♂️

  • The Mitchells vs. The Machines

    The Mitchells vs. The Machines

An absolute fucking joy. Stunning visual style. Relatable and heartfelt. A queer lead in an animation movie makes this that much sweeter.

I'm... Kinda glad I didn't see this in a cinema full of screaming children kicking my chair cause that would have ruined the entire mood.

Is the teaser at the top unnecessary? Sure. But the rest of the film is so good, and it's made for kids, so I'll give them some slack on that.

  • Cubby

    Cubby

Napoleon Dynamite, but make it gay.

  • Persona: The Dark Truth Behind Personality Tests

Persona: The Dark Truth Behind Personality Tests

Dystopian and sad. Not a lot of new information and could do without trying to "both sides" the issue, but hopefully might start a conversation somewhere.

Myers-Briggs and Astrology are as bad as each other, burn it down.

  • Duck Amuck

    Duck Amuck

Honestly one of the greatest shorts ever made. Maybe *the* greatest.

  • The Night of Counting the Years

The Night of Counting the Years

    Absolutely STUNNING.

Staging as perfec as any Lumet. Moody, ethereal, sombre. This is a special, special film and I'm so glad I got to see it.

  • Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)

Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)

Keeps getting better and better. Fuck, I love this film.

    Definitely, infinitely re-watchable.

  • They Live by Night

    They Live by Night

I struggled to connect to a lot of this, much like In A Lonely Place. It's definitely a me thing.

However, that final shot is STAGGERING.

  • The Father

    The Father

    Holy fuck. That was.... Fuuuuuuuck.

So unbelievably intricate, never seen a story like this done like this before. Avoids EVERY cliche and hits a deep well of emotion.

    God tier production design.

    That final scene DESTROYED me.

  • Where Danger Lives

    Where Danger Lives

Way too plain, and Mitchum feels like he's phoning it in a bit...
