Bri’s review published on Letterboxd:
This was the first Obayashi my buddy and I watched for our project but we thought it would be fun to revisit it when we got back to where it is chronologically.
Genuinely scary, but mostly full of longing, grief, and loneliness. Like all the best ghost stories.
Particularly struck this time by how the movie begins with a lack of color and harsher lighting in the lead’s apartment and office. But whenever he returns to his old home we see the warm light and colors that we’ve come to expect from Obayashi at this point. He’s welcome.
