Just one of the most fun adventure horror films ever made, animated or otherwise. It's got great gallows humor, snarky dialogue, a phenomenal score throughout, and it sets up an interesting world that is entirely recognizable but ultimately turned on its head to provide a serious emotional punch. The finale is stunning and features one of the most beautifully unique animated sequences ever, followed by a tender heartwarming ending that speaks perfectly to the film's themes of embracing who you are, bullying, and forgiveness. Yet another Laika gem and a new Halloween season favorite for me.

Such a beautiful bore. Way too much talking and a very slow pace, but as usual Karloff is amazing and so are the makeup and effects of the time. I love the atmosphere these black and white classic monster films are able to achieve, even if the story isn't as engaging as I'd prefer.

The most shocking takeaway for me was that even in 1937 Hollywood was very self-aware of the culture it was forming and its cost on the identities and lives of those who dreamed to be a part of it.

“There are only two industries that call their customers 'users' - illegal drugs and software.”

The most terrifying thing about watching this documentary is how much of this information on the dangers of social media I feel like I already knew, and yet I actively ignore it all because I'm addicted to the high of the drug.
