Aaron White’s review published on Letterboxd:
I knew nothing about this film before watching it and I am so thankful for that. Had I known the plot, or anything about the film's themes and heavy sexual content, I quite possibly would have skipped it. Instead, I followed the incredible amount of positive response and was able to make a decision for myself.
This is, quite simply, a masterpiece in cinematic storytelling. It is a technical achievement worthy of multiple Oscar nominations, features incredibly strong acting from its two female leads, and weaves a twisty mystery drama romance tale that will definitely reward multiple viewings. I have not been able to shake the aesthetic of this film yet. It's images and sound are still dancing around in my head.
If I could use one word to describe my experience with The Handmaiden, it would be mesmerizing.
