Every movie deserves a chance.
Beanpole is a film with a deeply sad subject matter that is presented with an air of normalcy. There is no dramatic swelling of an orchestral score that tells us when to feel angry or sad, we are simply left to live with the reality on display. A reality that is rarely showcased, especially in films of this caliber. All of this provides the movie a deep sense of realism that never gives it a hint of falseness.
