Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood

Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood ★★★★★

There's only so many movies that we can turn on during basically any scene, and have a complete blast watching. I have no doubts that this will go down in history as one of them. Airplane! is like that, Pulp Fiction, Caddyshack, even The Shining, etc., but truly only a select few.

The contrast of unconditional love for Hollywood with the unapologetic hate for it is what creates the cinematic battlefield here, lending the movie that incredibly rare charm. Not many have achieved this, and I imagine that not many more will.

This could have gone so many different ways, most of which would have led to a pretty massive collection of disappointment. I didn't know what to think of the previews; I honestly thought it was going to flop. But this really was a Hollywood fairytale unlike anything that comes to mind. It was not overshadowed by the Tarantino-ian stylistic idiosyncrasies that could have totally derailed a film a little more unnatural for him (I would argue), and it was not obsessive over any particular cinematic element that just as well could have blended it more with the rest of his work.

Needless to say, only the freak himself, Quentfeet Tarantintoe, could ever turn Margot Robbie's trotters into the rising stars they were clearly meant to be.

I mean... If you weren't noticing that, were you really watching the movie??
