This was a bit of a let down for me, unfortunately. The story felt all over the place at times, not cohesive, and I didn't particularly enjoy Rupert's arc. There were a few moments, such as the dinner scene, where the editing was questionable and looked a little messy.
However, like most of Xavier Dolan's films, there are certain scenes that are raw, beautiful and vulnerable — thanks to Xavier's ability to write such moments, but also because of the amazing performances made by Kit Harrington, Natalie Portman, Jacob Tremblay and Susan Sarandon. The cinematography was quite stunning as well, which made me appreciate the film a bit more.
Besides that, there always seems to be a scene in a Xavier Dolan film where some of the characters are having a cathartic moment whilst singing along to a song they love... and I'm a sucker for that.
