"Oh my God, you actually think you have won."
In the court of Queen Anne in 1711 England, sex is manipulation, deceit is necessary, and to have power is absolutely everything. Through the situation of Sarah, Abigail, and Anne, The Favourite offers some interesting commentary on social hierarchy and power dynamics. And to explore that with three complex and well written female leads? Yes please. Everybody raves about this film and I was worried my expectations were too high, but I really loved this! The writing is fantastic (I haven't seen Green Book, but how did this not win Best Original Screenplay?!), the set design was absolutely stunning, and the acting was incredible. My only regret? I should've watched this sooner.
and thank you to dylan for telling me to watch this :)
