FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q1: Why are films such as Portrait of a Lady on Fire and Sound of Metal in this list when they are labeled as 2019-released films?
A1: As you may have read earlier in the description, film eligibility entails that a film must’ve premiered in 2020 through a film festival or had its wide/theatrical release in 2020. While Portrait of a Lady on Fire premiered in 2019 on multiple film festivals, it had its wide release on February 14 2020. Same case with Sound of Metal and other films labeled with the year of 2019.
Q2: Why is your criteria for nomination requires that a film is either widely released in 2020 or premiered at a film festival in 2020?
A2: I did it to acknowledge all films released in 2020, whether it be on limited release (film festivals) or wide release (theatrical/streaming services). Despite its title ‘2020’s Best Picture,’ the eligible films are not exactly similar than the ones done in the Academy. I clearly stated the rules and if you have a problem with that, then maybe make a list of your own. It’s that simple.
