Andie Wheatley’s review published on Letterboxd:
The nostalgia this movie affords me! I was a 13 year old girl when this movie came out and “pushing 30” imminently! I am the target demo.
Mark Ruffalo, so charming in this. And not your typical rom-com leading male! Andy Serkis, what a CHOICE to do this immediately post-LOTR. I will never forget the Thriller dance as long as I live. Judy Greer, relegated (again) to a supporting role albeit a conniving one in which she kills it. But no one outshines Jen Garner in this. After Alias, what a choice to play sweet naive Jenna Rink! Adorable through and through. I love that she immediately tricks out her life with everything a tween would love - including holographic Lisa Frank folders and fruit roll ups. Side note: why does her boyfriend in this look like a real life Prince Charming from Shrek 2?
Shoutout to a young Brie Larson as a six chick, and not even the main one! And a Jim Gaffigan cameo! And the soundtrack my GOD what a blast from the past. This may have been the first time I ever heard “Jesse’s Girl” (and learned the word “moot”). And “Why Can’t I” by Liz Phair?!
Every single girl I knew bought pink converse bc of the final :30s scene when Jen Garner wears them. I did not, for the record, but I wanted them soooooo badly!
