This film is such a frustratingly mixed bag for me. On one hand you have a genuinely fantastic villain who provides the protagonist with a real moral opposition to the values his father instilled in him, and pushes him towards making a real change for the good of the world based on the ideals of his antagonist. Then on the other hand the third act turns into a generic CGI mess with pew pew lasers and big fuckin war rhinos. 6/10, I really wish this nailed its final act cos it could have been great.
Can’t wait for Bong Joon-Ho’s The Aristocats remake coming 2023
This one was such a mixed bag for me. On one hand the performances and character work from Zendaya and John David Washington is just superb. On the other, something about a white filmmaker having his lead character spend most of the film ranting furiously about how white critics can never truly understand the nuance of being a black filmmaker didn’t fully sit right with me.
