Cruella ★★★★★

The thing is, I was born brilliant, born bad, and a little bit mad. I'm Cruella.

Out of all the movies Disney has released in theaters and Disney+, I'd say this is the one that most deserves the $30 they're charging. I'm not saying go and get it for $30, I'm saying it's amazing and deserves to be watched somehow.
It does drag a bit more than it should here and there, but overall I'd say Cruella is quite possibly some of Disney's best work, at least in the live-action department. The acting might not be Academy Award worthy, but it's still incredible. The two Emmas are fun to watch, both play suprisingly great psychopaths.
One thing that definitely is Academy Award worthy is the costume design. They're fantastic and there was definitely a lot of thought and effort put into them.
Was Craig Gillespie the best choice for a director here? I'm sure there's probably someone out there that could've done an even better job, but he was fantastic here! He gave the film an overall more mature feeling with his signature slick and stylish directorial look. Add to that a superb soundtrack that fits the film more than not.
Another thing that could possibly work to its advantage is that a lot of the time it doesn't seem to be about the Cruella de Vil that kills Dalmatians. Hell, the movie is rarely about dogs, and even when it is this Cruella doesn't feel like the type to kill and skin them, even at the end. It feels more like Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) (yes, I refuse to just call it Birds of Prey) and The Devil Wears Prada with a hint of an Ocean's movie than Disney's Joker (Fashion Edition). I can see the complaints that arose from this film, but I didn't fine any of them to be a problem, darling.
