Angela Nguyen’s review published on Letterboxd:
Yorgos Lanthimos is a great example of an excellent filmmaker who has perfected his style as an auteur so well that every film he creates feels as though they come from parallel dystopian worlds. From the quirky, comedic dialogue to the use of intertitles and complex characters, Lanthimos’s films have a charm to them that can be polarizing (as in The Lobster) but works so well in this film. The Favourite is gorgeous in its period costuming and production design, and the cinematography is intriguing at times (the use of the fish eye lens, dissolves, whip pans, and following shots). The best part of the film has to be Olivia Colman, Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone who are all incredible in their performances and definitely deserve all the praise. While I became lost at the ending, this film is absolutely a wonderfully directed film that I will need to revisit. Highly recommend.
