Marie Antoinette 2006
often described as electrifying, marie antoinette is, in my opinion, sofia coppola’s magnum opus. from the exquisite costume and set design, an indie and post-punk filled soundtrack and fun ambience, I enjoyed every minute of this film. kirsten dunst was spectacular as marie antoinette, and she plays a modern, rebellious, and outgoing queen perfectly. using elements of both dramatic and comedic films alike, coppola shows a side to the 18th century queen using aspects of early 2000’s pop and celebrity culture to showcase a headstrong and lavish woman having to adapt to the strictness of royal etiquette.
