So Spike Lee’s Blackkklansman took an unbelievably true story and incorporated political satire and style of a blaxploitation film to both undermine the KKK in a comedic way while also being able to make the audience aware of the constant injustices brought upon black Americans by incorporating last year’s Charlottesville riots in his credits. Adam Mckay had a republican and a democrat get into a fist fight over who is right while a young woman says “I’m excited for the…

So sweet and delightful. Nick Offerman is great but Kiersey Clemons and her beautiful voice, wow! I knew she was talented but this really shows off her talents.

The one time I decided to pay attention I heard the funniest line in the whole movie: “I would be so pissed if she didn’t have a miscarriage”

Also I like the movie way more when Jeremy Renner and Leslie Bibb are not in it. Jon Hamm, Hannibal Buress, Jake Johnson, Isla Fisher and sometimes Ed Helms are great together and actually make this fun. Sometimes emotional beats don’t land and that’s a fault of the movie itself where the point is to do whatever it takes to win. It’s no Game Night but I had fun.

I’ve watched this more times than I ever need to but when I do it’s a constant reminder that Reese Witherspoon made the wrong decision. I hope you like being with a man with no lips

    Mary Poppins Returns

    ★★★

Very very very charming to say the least. This is exactly what it should feel like when you think of “Disney magic.” Marc Shaiman’s beautiful score (one of the best of the year) makes me feel like I’m walking down Main Street at Disneyland. Every technical aspect of this film really makes this feel special; the beautiful, colorful costumes, the glorious set pieces paired with well choreographed dances, the BEAUTIFUL 2D animation that damn near brought a tear to my…

    ★★★

Too bad A Quiet Place came out and was way better.

Also that end is so hokey I’m sorry but it’s just a pile of conveniences.

Sandy B is good though and the idea of being a single mother guiding her children without sight gives the movie great moments of tension.

I actually cried a little because this would just not end. The first half is downright UNWATCHABLE. I can’t believe I’m saying this but I HATE Oscar Isaac in this SOOOO MUCH! Usually for movies like this I say I feel bad for the people involved but you know what not today y’all deserve this. Dan Fogleman please don’t ever do whatever that was ever again.

    UNRATED VERSION

I finally bought the blu ray after many viewings of this film and watched the unrated cut which adds a bit more to the themes of the plot. I enjoyed the original Universal logo in the beginning and kind of makes me wish they stuck with it in the theatrical cut, but I fear that not many would have noticed the difference so it would have just gone to waste. The opening now contains a scene of Lawrence…

  • Bad Times at the El Royale

Bad Times at the El Royale

    ★★★

This feels very reminiscent of Tarantino particularly The Hateful Eight and Reservoir Dogs because of it’s star studded cast and the way the story is told.

This is mostly interesting because of its characters and how you learn about each character particularly Jeff Bridges as Father Daniel, Cynthia Ervio as Darlene and Chris Hemsworth as Billy Lee. Those three whether it’s one character, two of them, or all three are sharing a scene are fantastic and play off each other…

I watch this damn near on a daily basis and I just love this movie. Not as much as the original which is very near and dear to my heart but I do love this one. I wish this was a more successful film because then we’d have more of these. Hopefully we’ll one day get another Abbott and Costello or “Wolfman vs.” type of movie.

  • Aquaman

    Aquaman

    ★★★

Off the bat: the songs in this are awful and the pacing is all over the place. The villains are cheesy and one of them just completely ruins the flow of this movie. And it’s WAY too long like extremely long.

That being said this is a fun time and I really enjoyed this. I love that this movie went full on weird with all the creatures and mythology of Aquaman. It’s bright and colorful and filled with life when…
