kazan is certainly my favorite director, and i've yet to encounter any of his work I don't see as less than brilliant. the richness of a novel all represented in his (relatively) short films, and as for this one, natalie wood is eternally the greatest aspect. sexual and mental repression reaches a terrible breaking point in deanie and she gives it an excelling manic genius. warren is surprisingly a weaker performer amidst a great ensemble? regardless, a lot to consider and a lot to praise.
