Strong contender for most delirious experience I’ve ever had in a theater. Incredibly powerful, every song introduces a new and hornier kink.

Part of what makes this such an indelible experience is just how thoroughly sincere and ironic enjoyment are blended together and rendered indistinguishable. The movie has its own particular goals, but one gets the sense that they are so far beyond the ken of traditional Hollywood filmmaking that in rising to meet them things inevitably careen wildly out of hand. Whether by design or by mishap, delight arises. Ironic detachment grants you no power over Cats.
