    The quintessential movie that I feel like I should enjoy more than I do.

    Watched the 3D blu ray. As far as post-conversions go it looks fine, but the 3D doesn't really add a lot, only popping in a few isolated sequences and, as often as not, not really being noticeable at all.

    Mostly just an especially asinine teen movie, although there are some details that push it into memorably bad territory. The romantic interest is stiff and charmless and seems like he can barely act.     There's a special type of movie, I've never really come up with a term for it, that's a perfect balance of being entertaining for both genuine and ironic reasons.     I'm not sure I liked that the first act is basically a big fake-out; it wastes a bunch of time establishing characters and events that aren't important to the story, and the since the family turn out to not even be red herrings, you're left with 1/3rd of the film focusing on a bunch of fitfully amusing, broadly drawn comic stereotypes distracting from the central story.
