Ash ♥️’s review published on Letterboxd:
Tarantino at his most restrained (this is virtually violence-less until the third act) and also his least inhibited (sprawling long takes, ridiculous asides showcasing Rick’s filmography). I adored the long car sequences and how the film decides to treat time as elastic, elongating tiny moments and then jumping massive periods (the narration during the biggest jump is perfect, and honestly I think the film would’ve benefited from using it slightly more throughout). I wish tonally it had decided to go for more extremes (go harder on the laughs, harder on the slapstick violence) and I did find myself getting tired after an hour but that could be the fact I went to see this after an incredibly long day. I doubt it’ll be soon considering how long it took me to see it in the first place, but I can see myself warming to this more on a rewatch.
