Palace intrigue, divine tricks, and boat rides in the moonlight. Reddy achieves a level of free-flowing bliss that I'm so often searching for; my heart sings along to the music, my heart sings with this cinema. As Amal said, there are moments here reminiscent of King Hu. I would also make the comparison to huangmei opera cinema, which also deals with deep expressions of romantic yearning in an august, luxurious ancient setting. I watched with my 66 year old stepdad Mark. He had tears in his eyes for most of the runtime I think---obviously I was focused on the movie, but every time I glanced over, he was holding up his glasses so he could wipe his tears away. And who can blame him?
