Austin’s review published on Letterboxd:
A solid, if ultimately unnecessary spin-off.
Despite that somewhat dismissive statement, there’s enough to like here, especially when compared to some of the later sequels and first reboot attempt from 2018. Chris Rock is a fun if unprepared lead, anchoring a mystery narrative that feels like a return to the franchises’ early days when it was a B-movie riff on Se7en. It’s lean, mean and a good time. One of the stronger films in the series, but it could’ve been a little better.
