Will’s review published on Letterboxd:
Once in a lifetime stuff, truly - as profound an inspection of age and morality as you can possibly find - and told from the inside the eye of the storm looking out (and back) at a behemoth of modern American history, at an intersection of crime, culture, business & socio-politics.
(How apt and wistfully ironic is the little background name-check of THE SHOOTIST? Not only a hat tip at another goodbye film from an older generation, but Scorsese being part of the new movement that was, deliberately or not, burying the past in its wake? The ramifications - not specifically on that level, but more universally to do with time and your place within it - are achingly sad all round, too much to even make sense of. It is what it is.)
