  • Halloween

Possibly in the running for the greatest movie ending…ever? Images of suburbia eviscerated and hollowed out, the growing breath of the shape mingling with John Carpenter’s now iconic score; there’s no real conclusion or resolution all things considered, just a lingering feeling that life has irreversibly changed for the worse. It’s an ending that elevates it from classic to downright elemental, an integral part of horror cinema and the Halloween season.

  • Raiders of the Lost Ark

    Raiders of the Lost Ark

I don’t have anything insightful to say beyond that this whips an insurmountable amount of ass without even flinching.

  • Baby Driver

    Baby Driver

Actively avoided rewatching for three years thanks to the irrational fear that my favorite movies somehow abide by some arbitrary law of diminishing returns. What a mistake. This movie is designed to be seen and shared as many times as possible. It’s a film so in love with cinema as an art form; infectiously giddy about what the medium can accomplish with a few intricate stunts and synchronized needle drops. Not Wright’s best, but I’d argue it’s probably the best showcase of what he’s capable of as a director. Pure pop synthesis with the precision of a surgeon.

  • A Hard Day's Night

    A Hard Day's Night

Lotta great gags on top of all the revolutionary editing. Nothing has filled me with more joy this month like Leslie Jackson and his ten disappearing doves. Quite clean indeed.
