Smart zombies is a new one!! This was just a ton of fun, loved the group of punk kids and the morgue guys and the zombies and really just everyone. The brain eating was super nasty and despite how silly the whole thing was there were actually some pretty fun scares too! I also loved the idea that zombie movies like Night of the Living Dead lied about how to kill them. This’ll be one I gotta show to more people (it could definitely still find a bigger audience today)

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

That throat slit was a top ten all time most shocking moment for sure. Sometimes I get a little tired of amiguous endings though, even if I understand the artistic rationale behind it. Also our main guy totally sucks

I cant get over how cool Argento’s lighting and shooting style are. Like even when I didn’t get quite as much out of the film as I wanted to in terms of scares or plot it still looked so cool and creepy that I couldn’t help loving it. And to be clear, I found the film to generally be both scary and well-told. Argento is quickly becoming one of my favorite directors

Also, I love that the taxicab in the rain seems to be a theme through his filmography, its such an awesome setting

This kinda blew me away—I was not expecting to love this as much as I did. Andrew Garfield absolutely nailed this performance, and the musical numbers all around were fantastic. I think there are several moments that could have benefitted from having a more experienced director (sorry Lin) but Lin’s creativity made some scenes possible that other directors might not have attempted (specifically the Therapy and This is the Life numbers). Overall, I enjoyed this and will have the songs stuck in my head for weeks
