Attack the Block

Attack the Block ★★★

The December Project: Film #88

Not nearly as funny as I wanted it to be, Attack the Block's fusion of teen comedy and alien invasion sci-fi works well enough to make it a consistently enjoyable experience, if not as much so as it might have been. It's writer/director Joe Cornish's greatest achievement that he makes us so interested in this cast of characters despite their early efforts to mug a solitary woman. Held together by a fine cast, including a Nick Frost with sadly little to do, this is a fun little genre mash-up that, though falling short of its potential, makes for damn entertaining viewing.
