Gotta take it down half a star for over use of computer technology.

  • Paradise Alley

    Paradise Alley

Stallone's follow up to Rocky and his directorial debut has the same street level charm but feels like a shadow to that masterpiece. It's a film full of rich characters and individual moments of greatness but the overall picture doesn't fully work. The final Wrestling match is especially a let down.

Stallone really thought he could do anything after Rocky and he even sang the opening number to this film... he sounds awful and it's a real moment of hubris, especially when you have the great Tom Waits just sitting there.

  • Christine

The fact that Carpenter made this silly concept work is a testament to him as a filmmaker. Also watching again I love all the tracking POV camera work he sneaks into this film.

  • Into the Blue

    Into the Blue

Decided to do a John Stockwell double feature early this morning since I couldn't sleep. He really had the hot people in a great location market covered in the 00's. This was way more entertaining than I thought it would be. Essentially a hip take on Peter Benchley's The Deep. This has great visuals of the Bahamas, a hot cast in swimsuits and some entertaining action scenes. Plus Josh Brolin slumming it as a villain before his No Country for Old Men bump. I'll probably dive into this ocean again at some point.

  • Blue Crush

    Blue Crush

I'm a sucker for Surf films. This is early 2000's nostalgia for me and I can't help but fall under it's silly spell. Kate Bosworth should have become a huge star.

  • City Under Siege

    City Under Siege

A ludicrous mix of body horror, superhero film and martial arts. This is a Hong Kong action cartoon come to life. It is a little too long for something this silly but when it's kicking it's pretty damn entertaining.

  • The Voyeurs

    The Voyeurs

I’m a big fan of any 90’s erotic thriller and after the fad wore off, they haven’t really made any over the last two decades. Well Amazon delivered a real gift this year with The Voyeurs, a real throwback trashy erotic thriller that wants to be “Body Double” but ends up more in the “Sliver” lane. I admire how each stupid twist gets more and more ridiculous. None of it is plausible on any level. I couldn’t have been more entertained.

    More geriatric slashers please.

  • Prisoners of the Ghostland

    Prisoners of the Ghostland

The combination of Cage and Sono should be a slam dunk but this thing is a real mess. Unengaging, nearly impossible to follow and worst of all kind of boring. Cage is given some good moments and relishes every opportunity, especially in one scene where he yells "Testicle" from the top of a temple. Well, at least we got PIG this year.

“The Blood of these Whoooooores is killing me!!!!!”

The new Severin 4K disc looks great.

  • Rambo: Last Blood

    Rambo: Last Blood

I stayed away from this because so many people said it was bad. Finally got around to it and I had a great time. Rambo goes full Death Wish on a drug cartel, I love that. Plus the last 20 minutes rival any horror movie for pure carnage.

More of the same but with diminishing returns.
