Southland Tales

Richard Kelly’s ambition in making this movie is something to be admired but the end result is a complete trainwreck.

Southland Tales covers everything from police violence to the climate crisis, but almost every topic is given extremely vague, surface level treatment that says nothing of substance. The first 30 minutes was a near-constant exposition dump that was only there cause otherwise the film would be more incoherent than it already is. On the subject of pacing, the film feels twice as long than it actually is, making much of the viewing a painful slog to get through.
There were a few things I did appreciate in the film, but none of it was enough to make up for a mostly negative viewing experience.

This really ain’t it chief
