I think people were too hard on this one when it came out. Sure, it has some problems. Some awkward dialogue, a pretty simplistic stance on religion/religious horror, and does the thing I'm not very fond of where the Mexican guy has all the answers because he's more attuned to his spirituality but is really just a different shade of the "magical negro" "the Native Americans can commune with animals" kind of thing. Ok I'm being hyperbolic, but wow holy moly is this bleak, and fascinating, and should be required viewing for anybody who wants to get into not only animation, but moviemaking in general. It is INSANE that Disney not only lets people see this, but puts it on the front page of their streaming service.
