"If you look for meaning, you miss everything that happens"
    -Andrei Tarkovsky

The reason I chose to open my review with this quote is to help explain my approach to most films, but especially the work of David Lynch. After first viewing, my thoughts are never fully crystallized, so forgive me if this review isn't super well-crafted. The use of this quote is of course not to say that Lynch's works don't have any meaning, or that they are impervious…

    The Godfather

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

We all have that one work. The one work that bridges the gap between our youthful understanding of the medium and opens up so many new, more mature possibilities. The work that "pops the cherry," if you will. A work that redefines the way you look at a particular medium and sets a benchmark for future works to come. I don't know about you, but I have one such work for each of my favorite media.

    On the Silver Globe

man, I ain't even gonna try, but despite still only having a faint grasp of the dialogue I am mesmerized and transfixed by this film and I can't stop thinking about it. perhaps that alone is enough for me to think highly of it?

    Fallen Angels

Surprisingly, even after seeing works like In The Mood For Love and Chungking Express, Fallen Angels is just as stylish and (dare I say it, given the whole contract-killer-murder-thing) cool. Intense close-up angles further emphasize the loneliness and the longing of these characters. Despite people longing for change falling into old, destructive habits or meeting an unfortunate end, I'm glad WKW doesn't let the melancholy of these tales lead to nihilism. Sometimes, a moment of warmth is all that we need.

    The Texas Chain Saw Massacre

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a film that has refused to leave my mind for the past week or so.

When I first saw the film about a year or so ago, I did not understand why people considered it a horror masterpiece. I was not a fan of the pacing as the first two thirds of the film were incredibly slow to me and it did not get interesting until the final third. Despite that, the film failed to…

    Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo

Despite being ableist, fat phobic, and a genuinely not good film, Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo was laugh out loud funny and somehow got me invested in its main romance.

What a way to turn 24.
