An utter joy to watch; Speed takes its insane premise to the logical conclusion, a series of action setpieces that could only be strung together with this plot. Keanu is his typical enjoyable self, but the real performer here who stands out is Hopper's delightfully hammy villain, who is knowingly cheesy, and fits perfect within the tone of the film. The movie constantly escalates more and more, being truly ludicrous in the most entertaining way imaginable. The only thing keeping it from being perfect is a prolonged third act that feels unnecessary, if just because movies like this are best when they're short and sweet. Nevertheless, Speed is a truly fantastic action movie, one that knows how stupid it is in theory, but also knowing how to put together some absolutely memorable sequences. Genuinely a great movie.
