This movie was upsetting. I thought I knew what I was getting into, but I didn’t. It’s a very upsetting movie. It not anger or sadness, but this miasma of wallowing misery was very entrancing and palpable. Wakamatsu constantly shows sex, emotions, and violence together, separated, and blurs the lines between them. The emotional climax of the movie is not a peak, it is a constant. Everything felt very obnoxious, any interesting moment was tainted with a pungent aura of pretentiousness. Very dull, overinflated pseudo-intellectual bullshit, almost so badly written and acted that it was an accidental mumblecore at times. Almost everything about this was terrible and not worth watching. This would have been much better, maybe even good, if it was 20 minutes long.
