Branson Reese’s review published on Letterboxd:
Obviously not great. Maybe even the weakest of the entire franchise. But it’s stupid in a way that laid the groundwork for more F&F movies to come. It nobly sacrifices nuance and plotting in favor of world-building. The Fast and The Furious is a better than expected but ultimately pointless Point Break rip-off but 2 Fast 2 Furious is a bravely stupid and open preview of what’s to come. It looks outward. For the first time we see these characters inhabiting the rich sandbox of their world. This is the true beginning of the franchise. It’s dumb and loud and boneheaded but what did you want from the Vin Diesel street-racing movies? Go watch the Bicycle Thief you disingenuous dork.
This is the movie that introduces us to Tej and Roman, the Legolas and Gimli of the Fast and Furiverse. Show some respect.
