Brian Sweeney’s review published on Letterboxd:
To quote Janelle Monae paraphrasing Oscar Wilde, “everything is sex, except sex, which is power.”
The Favourite loses steam in the final act, but for most of the film it’s a wild, funny, and thrilling power struggle, with terrific performances from the whole cast. Yorgos Lanthimos’s stylistic choices are occasionally unnecessarily over the top, but the whole film looks gorgeous.
I know there’s Oscar buzz for the three leads, but can Nicholas Hoult get in on that? He’s fucking amazing and hilarious in this.
