    Mars Attacks!

I think what I love about this movie is that besides the love letter to 1950s flying saucer Sci-fi, besides the amazing cast, besides the over the top campiness...at its core it is basically: what if Gremlins, but Martians?

And you can't ask for more than that.

  • I Care a Lot

    I Care a Lot

    1) I think for an villain-protagonist to work, they need to at least have some type of sympathetic character traits or background. Similar to the show You, if you make the main character so utterly unlikable, the viewer just wants to see them get their comeuppance. For a villain-protagonist narrative to work, I think the viewer needs to be in conflict on some level: Dexter kills bad people, most of the time people much worse than him (although Dexter is…

    I'm Thinking of Ending Things

I feel like this is one of those movies where all the pretentious fan boys will go "you just didn't get it" when you say you didn't like it 🙄

3/5 for how gorgeous the film is.

0/5 cause my dude really let Toyko get flooded so he can see his teenage crush. I'm half suspecting he only left home cause his parents made him clean his room or something...

Not gonna lie, I was super pumped when they had the "you won't get anything done hoeing around like that" part 😂

  • Daybreakers

Great original premise, but gets bogged down by well-worn plot beats, and a style of action cheesiness that could only come out the late 2000s. Would love to see this world expanded upon in a more contemporary style and more capable hands.

    365 Days

It gets a half a star (instead of 0) because I was told this was the Polish 50 Shades, and for the most part, spot on.
Softcore porn with a higher budget and beautiful actors: ✔️
Cheesy melodrama and ultra thin plot: ✔️
Wealth-porn scenes (expensive cars, clothes, houses, etc) all for the sake of audience fantasy: ✔️
Abusive relationship that is not in any way framed as unhealthy as it actually is: ✔️

The main difference being where Ana…

  • Bridesmaids

I think I enjoyed The Take's video on the evolution of friendships referencing Bridesmaids...more than I enjoyed the actual film.

The comedy was for the most part pretty good, but I felt all of the other characters besides Annie were not as fleshed out as I would've liked.

    The Half of It

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

Pros: I love the premise, the philosophy nerd in me love the bits sprinkled throughout. Some great little quotes here and there. Some really good cinematography. The relationship between Ellie and Paul was delightful and I enjoyed how it kind of became a coming-of-age tale for three different people.

Cons: The pacing feels oddly rapid at certain points, it feels like it has to rush to hit every beat that it hits that...it kind of takes away from them. I…
