  • Alien

    On this watch I did something I hadn't done before, and put on the as-intended isolated score. Check it out if you have the blu-ray, it's an interesting look at what could have been.

    The short version: Jerry Goldsmith wrote a score for Alien that begins lush and tonal (think the softer portions of his Star Trek work) before giving way to a more avant-garde and textural approach as the plot progresses. Ridley Scott and his editor, Terry Rawlings, did…

    * Julian…

Birthday parties up to this point were family affairs, and being around my giant Catholic family was already exhausting.…

    Iron Man 2

    Initial viewing: May 2010 (one summer after Disney agrees to buy Marvel Studios) at Paradise Cinema 7, with Ashley (yeah, that one). It’s been out for a while, so the screening is fairly sparse; consensus is “not as good as the first, but still pretty good”. As we leave the theater, an employee removes the Valkyrie poster from the display case and offers it to us. Ashley ends up taking it. Present-day me is glad I don’t have a Bryan…
