I fucking love this insane movie. It’s so stylishly and confidently directed—the shots, the lighting, the soundtrack, the action. Oh my god the action, that staircase to apartment to car chase one-shot rules. Charlize shows both strength and vulnerability as the MI6 agent sent to Berlin—right as the Wall is about to come down—to retrieve a list with undercover agents names on it, and has to work in the already volatile environment with the equally volatile Percival, James McAvoy. She’s…

This is my favourite Pixar movie, not even close. It’s stunningly animated—Wall-E could be live-action. The relationship between Wall-E and Eve is so sweet and believable, I’m in on minute one. Showing Wall-E’s quirkiness in his collecting, and his desire for love in watching Hello Dolly, gets me on board with him easily. Then Eve waiting until her delivery rocket is gone, and then blasting off for a fun-filled flight, gets me on board with her just as easily. So…

Finally got to see this after our mini-lockdown ended. Have been excited for this one for a while, as the premise sounded hella fun, and the title rules. A gunpowder milkshake, what is that? Who cares, I want it! This movie is very stylish and fun, with lots of bright neon colours. The plot might be a little basic, but it gives you enough to emotionally buy in, and enough style to keep you interested. The action scenes are all really…

I realised that this was only the second time I’ve seen Goldeneye. I played the Nintendo 64 games for years, but only once ever actually bothered to watch the movie. No regrets honestly, that game rules. This really nailed the formula for some things. Giving the villain both a personal connection to Bond, as well as a personal reason for what they were doing. Dumping the Bond girl right in the middle of the action and making her capable in…

    A Quiet Place Part II

This really earns the title ‘Part 2’, and does it without making the first movie seem incomplete. An excellent continuation of the story and the world setup in the first. Millicent Simonds is excellent, just a really great person to watch act (her sword in the stone moment rips). Cillian Murphy makes any movie better just by being there, and the stuff he’s given is something he car rally sink his teeth into. Emily Blunt is sadly given the short-shrift.…

I’m always going to love any movie that does something new and interesting with animation. Into the Spiderverse, Wolfwalkers, and now this. Some really cool combinations of 2D & 3D, with some YouTube-like highlights throughout, and it looks great, and unlike most other animated movies. It also helps that the plot is a lot of fun, and almost every single joke lands or has some excellent pay-off later. Seriously, some of the callbacks in this were just perfection.  The emotional core…
