Callum Rourke’s review published on Letterboxd:
This was an incredibly fun film, that is better than I was expecting as I really thought this would suck. It was a good feeling to be surprised by this film and it gave me Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs vibes and that’s not a bad thing at all. The main thing that gave me those vibes was the humour and the insanely fast paced nature of the film. So many jokes come quick and go by just as fast and many detailed background jokes that were very entertaining to pause and look at. The LEGO Movie was like this too and even though Phill Lord and Chris Miller didn’t direct this, only produced, I can feel their style all over this and I’m not the first person to say that. It’s such an energetic film and it was a joy to watch. All the characters worked well and the voice acting from everyone was top notch, I didn’t expect Olivia Coleman to be this good but she made a great villain. One of the highlights of the film was the giant Furby scene, that was equally funny and scary and I can imagine it inflicting those same feelings on kids. Very much like Nobody, I’ll be surprised if this doesn’t stay in my top 10 of this year, a genuine surprise.
