Minari 2020
I am so, so fucking over the moon about this nabbing THREE Screen Actors Guild nominations. Most pundits were predicting it would entirely miss out - glad they were all wrong.

The Glorias 2020
Least favourite Taymor I've seen so far, but I do really like the others I've watched and rthis one has an interesting idea and some interesting bits in its execution, as far as biopics go I always appreciate a bit of originality, but Gloria Steinem's life seems like it deserve something with a bit more substance than this one.

Coming 2 America 2021
Not nearly enough McDowell's and John Amos, but what little we get is the only part of the film that truly worked for me. The other stuff isn't bad, I'm a big Jermaine Clement fan and it's got a wholesome heart at its core like the original, but it just wasn't funny enough.

Ouch.
This felt more stagy and theatrical than the play adaptations in contention this awards season, without being adapted from a play in the first play. It has that heightened overly dramatic theatre kid style that I kind of hate to begin with, and it does affect pretty much everything else.
Sam Levinson has some style as a visual filmmaker (that B&W cinematography and some of the early camera movements are commendable), but man is his dialogue insufferable.…
