I tried reading the book this was based off of when I was in middle school during the height of the dystopian YA era, but I tapped out about halfway through because of the incest stuff. It's pretty wild that the film gives even less context than the novel and just expects the viewers to fully accept the relationship. How I Live Now is a pretty standard attempt to capitalize on the YA adaptation craze, and it is passable at best. There's really not much to show for in terms of world building or characterization, and it all gets resolved with very limited conflict. I do think it's funny how everyone would go crazy for this cast these days, but none of them were popular enough when this was made to actually get people to watch the movie.
