    Involuntary Vacations

Accomplished shots and acting/directing. Last shot is haunting. Score is great, tried Shazaming the credits piece to add to my 👍🏽 playlist on Spotify but it’s an original so I can’t :/

    Thanks Austin, great work Lucas!

Very different for Tyler. The atmosphere pulls me along. Oh no, I can’t watch 😱😱😱

  • Miller's Crossing

    Miller's Crossing

Burwell’s theme is soaring and lovely.

A smart, lightning-fast, dialogue-heavy mob story with more of an Irish accent than the competition, The Departed included. It’s a solid movie, and even top-tier if you go in for its sort of thing. For me, a good time but not exactly my preferred cup.

Fun to see all these young actors kill it, knowing they grow into successful careers.

Thanks for not booting me Quon!

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

Between us, we are quiet now. Flame like summer cantaloupe. Move easy, body no longer body. Your mind lives in mind. Your heart in deeds. The rest is green beyond.

To all the journeys going, coming, for then and for now and forever — slàinte mhaith, my friend. Thank you for everything. The wild way roars.

  • Nomadland

    Nomadland

What Francis McDormand can do, very few people can do. She’s really very very good. But for me it was the actors (nonactors?) in a couple of the smaller roles that stole the show. Bob and Swankie, specifically, who are great overall but also each get and totally elevate their own heavy monologue.

    Buuuuuut

Other than the acting, this really doesn’t do it for me. Not score, not cinematography (it’s gorgeous but that’s the land, not the camera), not editing,…

  • Yi Yi

    Yi Yi

Wonderful. Highest recommendations. One of those movies that reaffirms (or reminds) what cinema can be.

A review is a sales pitch, and that’s too cheap for this. A reaction is something else, but it can refocus away from the film, excoriating something essential of it from the body. One must be aware and not treat thoughts, feelings, words lightly. So, recognizing that this film has all I could ever want from it and more, I’ll leave mine here.

    Thanks Quon

    Dave Chappelle: Redemption Song

More like a YouTube clip of something bigger; actually surprised this is up on here. Can’t give it a heart until the ideas are developed a bit more, which I hope already happened and is already filmed and waiting to drop. But still as I always say I could listen to him talk all day.

    Cave of Forgotten Dreams

“The sequence and duration of time is unimaginable for us today. We are locked in history, and they were not.”

For me, Herzog’s great power lies in the confluence of his writing and his willingness to explore, to adventure out into the world. He lives the stories he is interested in, which is an inspiration, and is able to assess them, relate them, recreate them, beautifully. A meeting of interior structure and physical reality. It is tempting for me to…
