Caleb Johnson’s review published on Letterboxd:
Jesus fucking Christ. Nothing could have prepared me for how AWESOME this film was going to be. I don't even know where to start. Right off the bat, there is never a dull moment to be found here. The atmosphere of this film is always, without exception, constantly engaging, creepy, eerie, and fueled by paranoia thanks to excellent direction from John Carpenter and a fantastic score from the man himself: Ennio Morricone. The practical/special effects in this are the DEFINITION of top-notch. There isn't a single special effect in this that doesn't look real. It isn't just exceptional for 1982, it's exceptional for TODAY. In fact, the effects in this movie look much better than most of the CGI we've been seeing now in 2021. "The Thing" is a phenomenal horror/thriller/sci-fi that earns its place as a masterpiece and a classic. Plus 100 points for Kurt Russell's badass hair and beard combo.
