    Call Me by Your Name

I was completely entranced by this film, and whatever expectations I had coming in were met and exceeded. Timothee Chalamet's performance conveyed the feelings that words alone don't. The writing was as beautiful as the Northern Italy backdrop and made the whole two hours feel like a vacation in itself. This movie exuded a theme more effortlessly and effectively than I have ever seen before in its focus on the human body and form. Even in the more non-physical scenes,…

This movie is about making beautiful things out of broken ones.

Fonny and Tish's relationship is beautiful. Their circumstance becomes broken, but they work together to keep the beauty in mind. Their respective families are broken at their junction, but members put in the work to bring it to beauty. Fonny takes scrap pieces of wood, discarded and mangled, and turns them into works of beautiful art. He looks at an unfinished warehouse and turns it into a comfortable and…

  • Paterson

Overwhelmingly human and beautiful and unsettling. I somehow always knew I would love this, and did I ever! For better or for worse, I found Paterson extremely personally relatable. There are so many parts of this that I really need to think about- and not in the way I so often dislike. Just really genuinely interesting and smart. So much to love here, sweet and scary in all the ways life is. Such a well-constructed vision. Very, very close to…

Yup, yup, here comes killjoy Cole again. I know. I was really excited after hearing the first wave of reviews to see this- I was disappointed and skeptical since it was announced years ago, but reviews made it sound like a worthwhile sequel. Couldn't disagree more because 1) Toy Story 3 ended *perfectly*, and 2) this was not good.

Toy Story 4 was a creative mistake, and in the same ways lots of pointless sequels are.

    First and absolutely foremost,…

Don’t let the rating fool you- iconic. My mind is properly blown by how many minuscule moments throughout this remained crystal clear for me. Properly great score, and genuinely a good performance by Nicholas Cage.

Watched with WHOJ RAs in the Ott lobby at GVSU.
