Recently, for the monthly film club that my wife and I host, we revisited Under the Skin. Perhaps it is recency bias, but I feel like these films could make a really fascinating double feature. Of course they are similar in that they rely heavily on visual storytelling to make narrative leaps that you really only find in cinema and dreams, but there are even narrative similarities in that you have a female identifying protagonist who preys and is preyed upon, who suffers head trauma, and has a change of heart/experiences compassion, all while attempting to hide/suppress their “inhuman-ness”. Titane may have the edge in that it is the one directed by a woman and therefore has the benefit of lived experience of femininity rather than just well researched conjecture.
