Chris Cassingham’s review published on Letterboxd:
It’s fine! Leo is great. All of his stuff as Rick Dalton acting in his shows is really, really fun. Margaret Qualley has a couple good scenes, and Brad is super cool (but also killed his wife? which is such a strange, unconsqeuential detail that was given a lot of attention).
It’s super indulgent in some good and weird ways. Quentin loves classic film and tv and that’s very apparent here. He even made me long for that era and I have no history with it. BUT, a lot of sustained shots of (super dirty) feet, a super weird shot pretty much straight up Margaret Qualley’s butthole, and a lot of gratuitous violence. The Manson stuff didn’t play out how I thought it would, but it made me feel nothing, which I don’t think was the intention.
Also, is Austin Butler having......a moment?? Let’s hope not.
