"You've got to remember that these are just simple farmers. These are people of the land. The common clay of the new West. You know, morons."

I have to admit that I'm not a huge fan of most of Mel Brooks's spoofs. Although they contain a few classic jokes, far too much of the material is juvenile, sledgehammer-subtle and frankly dated. However, while I could say the same about parts of Blazing Saddles, its bold anti-racist message and inventive meta finale really clicked for me.

Cleavon Little and Gene Wilder make for a terrific central duo here and *spoiler alert* it's mighty satisfying to see them ride off into the sunset at the end... albeit not on the expected horses.
