disney really can’t have a main black character without turning them into an animal or amorphous blob (or both!) within 15 minutes.

the joe/22 dynamic felt like a watered down version of the central relationships from finding nemo, wreck it ralph, monsters inc etc. but I thought the nyc scenes felt SO striking and beautiful + the final message was moving. in a time of such great uncertainty it was cool to see writers lean into that. I also loved the sense of joe being a character with so much love in his life! who is a part of by community but misses all the little things making life worth it! instead of focusing so much time on corporate iHeaven + the bobblehead white woman child I wish they dug deeper into the richness they already established.
