It's breezy and the kind of entertaining mystery that works on a lazy Saturday afternoon. Is it perfect? No. Some of the American performers (the ones playing the Boynton family members) can be a bit dull, but they also don't have too much to do compared to the other actors. The screenplay is not as witty as Evil Under the Sun or Death on the Nile, but it's a pleasant way to spend 90+ minutes. I like this film more…

    Bill Traylor: Chasing Ghosts

I wanted to like this documentary, as Bill Traylor is such an interesting subject. However, the movie's structure is a mess. This feels like a typical documentary you would see in a high school history class. This is an odd film. It shouldn't work because of the constant shifts in tone, and it doesn't work, but it still ends up being watchable. The script is strong and incisive, but it also never gels. Too many subplots (the daughter, the wife, the playwright, the vase, etc.) shift the focus from the strongest…

    Mr. SOUL!

The movie has such an important subject matter, and I appreciated seeing the clips from the show, SOUL!. However, the film has a big problem. IT never really gives us much information about Ellis Haizlip. I don't know if the filmmakers were afraid to delve into his life because of his sexuality, but we learn nothing that we couldn't get from a wikipedia page. Mixed review.
