The Way Back ★★★★

deeply glad that this exists, not because i particularly loved it but because i’m glad that people funded what’s in essence a therapy film for Affleck. beyond Gone Girl this is probably his best performance, it’s clear most of it was him channeling his post BvS life and it works like hell for the film, doubles as the reluctant coach who learns to fight for his team and the person behind it trying to get day by day. i really don’t care if there was nothing new here, nothing flashy because its a film about Affleck himself learning to heal, something that feels deeply therapeutic in the same way Honey Boy is. i hope Ben is doing okay
