Why I re-watched this one? I loved this movie when I was in high school....but I realized it had been a very long time since I had seen the movie....so it was time to re-visit this one.
What is this one about? Follows a Cuban refugee (Al Pacino) as he climbs the ranks of the organized crime.
My thoughts on this one? Wow....I remember the violence being very graphic and horrific. Now it seems that this one would be close to a PG-13. Sadly I guess we all look at violence in a different light than we did 30 plus years ago. Ok done with my social commentary....back to the movie. I actually found the pacing of the movie to be pretty slow at times. For a movie that is almost 3 hours long...it does not seem like too much takes place on the screen. Granted I still enjoyed the movie but it did not fascinate me as much as it did back in the day. Pacino is excellent in the lead role. The supporting cast creates very memorable characters too. Standouts would be Steven Bauer, the late Robert Loggia, F. Murray Abraham, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio and Michele Pfeiffer (in one of her first roles). Final thought: Still a very entertaining movie.....but age seems to be catching up to this movie.
